We had a great time - they declared it their favorite sleep over. I kept it easy and had built a few of the town Lego sets I had, bought their favorite cereal and lucked out by taking them to their favorite pizza restaurant.
They really enjoyed the "secret" path through the library garden on the way to pizza. They loved the Indian sculpture. So on Sunday, after breakfast, I took them up to the park. Also, it's hard to keep them quiet and wanted to let my neighbors have a quiet early morning.
We explored everything. From the pond to the play set to the tee-pee and all the climbing on the Rick formations. They loved scrambling up the largest ones, so had to keep redirecting their attention to other places to explore, to keep my worrying down. We even hung out with the fisherman (father/son duo). Apparently the fish are very domesticated- you toss your line in and seconds later you have a bite.
There were inch worms everywhere. Cam named his hoppy and Maggie called hers princess.
The walk back home, I couldn't help but appreciate what a nice neighborhood I live in. The lilacs and lily if the valley were in full bloom and very fragrant. Beautiful sunny day and everyone so friendly. It's funny how the dynamics change when you have kids or dogs with you. Lots of conversations.
We recouped with a snack, movie and more playing with Lego, dolls and doctor before heading home. I put the Harry Potter book on CD on and Jim Dales soothing voice kept them entranced the whole way home.
Spent the afternoon hanging out - washing my duvet, sorting winter clothes and going out for ice cream.
On the way back we stopped by Mary and Andy's. i got to see all of Andys handy work - making bird baths. And I got to visit with Whisky - Webster and Wallace's sister. It's amazing how she's just like them - in muscle build, disposition and skitiness/friendliness. Wallace wasn't wild about the kids visit and stayed away, Webster was interested but apprehensive. He's become the more brave ones these days. Winston just was grumpy about the whole thing.
All in all a great weekend. I do think it helped I had the Lego. Saturday night, Maggie went to sleep right away. Cam on the other hand was too excited to sleep. At one point I heard him playing above me in the loft with the Legos. I figured I'd give him a little while and then tell him to go to sleep. But a moment later he comes down and is crying. I get out of him he's been bad. It turns out he was bad because he was playing with Legos instead if trying to go to sleep. It was too much temptation to go to sleep in the middle of all that Lego. That's the life if a six year old!
